Who we are
Sirens to Syntax LLC is a Nebraska limited liability company. We build software and training tools for the fire service, including DrillGround.
This policy covers information collected through sirenstosyntax.com and any email list operated from it.

The short version
We collect your email address when you choose to give it to us, and that's essentially it. We use it to send you what you signed up for. We do not sell it, rent it, or trade it.
You can leave the list at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email, and we will delete your information on request.

What we collect
Information you give us directly
When you join our early-access list, you submit your email address, and optionally your first name. You provide this voluntarily. We do not require it to read the site.
Information collected automatically
This site is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like nearly all web hosting, GitHub's servers record standard technical information about visits, which may include IP address, browser type, referring page, and time of request. We do not control this collection and do not receive individualized reports from it. GitHub's privacy practices are described in the GitHub Privacy Statement.
Email engagement
Our email platform records whether an email was opened and which links were clicked. This is standard for email delivery services and is on by default. We use it for one purpose: figuring out which content is actually useful so we can send less of what isn't.
We have deliberately turned off the optional tracking features our platform offers. We do not append subscriber identifiers to links, we do not append campaign tracking parameters, and we do not share a hashed version of your email address with third parties for cross-channel tracking.
If you'd prefer not to be tracked at all, most email clients let you block remote images, which prevents open tracking from firing.
Analytics
We use PostHog to understand how the site is used — which pages get read, where people arrive from, and where they lose interest. This helps us decide what to build and what to write.
PostHog records page views, clicks and form interactions, browser and device type, and the page you arrived from. It sets a cookie so that a return visit isn't counted as a new one.
We have configured it deliberately:
- IP addresses are discarded. Your IP address is thrown away at the point of collection rather than stored. We do not retain it, and we cannot use it to work out where you are.
- Session recording is turned off. PostHog can replay a visitor's mouse movements, scrolling, and typing as though it were video. We do not use this feature.
- Anonymous visitor profiles are turned off. We do not build persistent profiles of people who haven't given us their information.
- We use it to see patterns across visitors, not to follow individuals.
Fonts
Our site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts. This means that when you visit, your browser requests those font files from Google's servers, and Google receives your IP address as part of that request. This happens on page load whether or not you sign up for anything. Google's handling of that data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
What we do not collect
We do not run advertising trackers or advertising pixels on this site. We do not follow you across other websites. We do not sell or share data with advertisers or data brokers. We do not collect payment information through this site.
Cookies
This site sets one analytics cookie, described above, which lets us tell a returning visitor from a new one. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. The site works normally without them; you'll simply be counted as a new visitor each time.
How we use it
We use your email address to:
- Deliver the resources you requested, such as the free drill package
- Send occasional updates about DrillGround's development
- Invite you to test early versions of the product
- Respond to you if you contact us directly
That's the complete list. We do not use your information for automated decision-making, and we do not use it for any purpose materially different from what you signed up for without asking you first.
How your consent works
Our email list uses double opt-in. After you submit the form, you receive an email asking you to confirm. If you don't confirm, you are not added to the list and receive nothing further.
Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing takes effect immediately and requires no explanation.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
We use a small number of service providers to operate the site and the list. They process information on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes:

We may also disclose information if legally required to do so — for example, in response to a valid subpoena or court order.
If Sirens to Syntax LLC is ever sold or merged, subscriber information may transfer as part of that transaction. If that happens, we will notify the list before the transfer takes effect.
How long we keep it
We keep your email address for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we retain a suppression record — the minimum information needed to make sure we don't email you again by mistake. If you'd rather we delete that too, write to us and we will.
Your rights
Regardless of where you live, you may:
- Access the information we hold about you
- Correct it if it's wrong
- Delete it
- Unsubscribe from all communications
- Get a copy of it in a portable format
To exercise any of these, email grant@sirenstosyntax.com. We will respond within 30 days. We will not charge you, and we will not treat you differently for asking.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act or the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation. We honor the rights above for everyone rather than sorting subscribers by jurisdiction.
A note for California residents: We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA, and we have not done so in the preceding twelve months.
Do Not Track
Some browsers let you send a "Do Not Track" signal. There is no agreed industry standard for how sites should interpret these signals, and we do not currently respond to them.
In practical terms this changes little, because we don't track you across other websites. Our analytics only observe activity on our own site, and we run no advertising trackers of any kind.
Security
We use reputable service providers who maintain industry-standard safeguards, and we limit access to subscriber information to those who need it to operate the business. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a breach affecting your information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
Children
This site is intended for fire service professionals and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Links to other sites
Our site may link to third-party sites we don't control. This policy doesn't cover them. We'd encourage you to read the privacy policy of any site you visit.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top. If the change is significant — for example, a new category of information or a new use — we'll notify the email list directly before it takes effect.
